On October 18th I participated and ran the 3.1 mile course for the 2009 Race for the Cure. An annual event in Baltimore, MD that benefits the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.
It was cold.
It was rainy
It was an amazing experience!
I met many participants who had lost love ones, knows someone surviving the disease, or is a personal survivor. The most amazing experience was the first mile or so. Watching the "sea" of people running up Shawan Road for a common purpose was awe inspiring. There was literally thousands of people running at the same time. There wasn't a speck of road visible as we ran. I must admit, there was a lump in my throat.
I believe and have written on this site how important I believe community service and charity should be an integral aspect of all of our lives. In tough times, it may be difficult for all of us to donate dollars. However, I believe we can all find, at least, one day a year to volunteer. What a great way to spend a day with your family and give back.
