My wife and I are members of the Disney Vacation Club; DVC for short. The DVC is unlike any time share that we have encountered in our travels. Anyone who has experienced a timeshare presentation painfully knows the reality of the high pressure sales environment. You were most certainly enticed with the promise of a number of free excursions or other adventures at the resort where your were vacationing. If you go in there with an open mind, trust me, you will buy. Train yourself ahead of time to say no; ALOT! If you do want to buy, decline the first few offers and watch the price drop with each and every "no thank you."
I want to mention DVC because it is a completely different experience. First of all, there are no high pressure sales tactics. The presentation is very professional and appropriately Disneyfied. The price is reasonable and the usage is flexible. You are not confined to the same week each year, but can enjoy your vacation home year around!
Whenever I talk to folks about the DVC, the biggest objection I get is, "I don't want to always go to Disney." Well, neither do I. First of all Disney has several resorts around the world at your disposal; including one at Vero Beach, FL and Hilton Head, SC. These resorts aren't even associated with a park. Second, DVC is partnered with major timeshare exchange companies that offer around the world destinations. For example, my wife and I spent our two week honeymoon in Mexico (one week in Pureta Vallarta and one week in Cabo San Lucas) using or DVC membership. Lastly, membership has its' privileges. There are a number of discounts and deals at the various Disney Parks around the world. These include reduced park tickets, discounts on dining and entertainment, and member only areas and merchandise.
If you are considering a time share, I would urge you to consider Disney's version. The Disney quality is unmatched. You will not regret your decision. We certainly haven't!
